Giant Macaron Cake

Hi Cake Sweeties,

My dearest sisterly friend Yvone just turned 40 this week. I decided on a giant macaron cake for her birthday this year. She doesn’t eat sweets that much but she really loves eating macarons. Actually, it’s her nemesis as she has had many attempts making them but failed.

In the beginning, I found daunting to carve the shape of the top and bottom shells. Then I watched Yolanda’s “How to Cake It” tutorial, I had more confidence to slowly carve the cake. My children saw the cake and were so excited to make a macaron so big. I knew I didn’t do so badly with this one. I chose purple fondant to cover it as Yvone loves purple. I made a mini macaron fondant topper to show the size difference.
I also went to buy a couple of store bought macarons to place on the board. As I just came back from my holiday, I only had two days to complete the cake (including baking – always baking from scratch and fresh).
This giant macaron cake is as fun as to make as the real one. Now, let’s eat cake J
